Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) – Plagued by a right forearm injury, former
runner-up Jo-Wilfried Tsonga decided to pull out of the upcoming Australian
Open.
The world No. 12 French star struggled with the injury during France’s loss to
Switzerland in November’s Davis Cup final. He then played in the International
Premier Tennis League, a franchise-based exhibition competition in Asia and
the Middle East.
Tsonga withdrew from the Hopman Cup this week because of pain in the arm and
said he is “still suffering from a forearm inflammation that prevents me from
being at 100 percent of my capacities in a competition.”
The 2008 Aussie runner-up Tsonga said he will need three more weeks of
treatment before returning to action.
The 2015 Aussie Open will begin January 19 in Melbourne.
