So much for aging gracefully. While one champion came back into form, the legends for the most part failed physically. Serena demolished all comers and showed no ill effects from her coffee laden collapse in a tune up tournament. On the Men’s side, it was more of the same as Novak made easy work of his early rounds. This gave him that extra stamina to vanquish a tired Stan in the semis. He then took it home against Andy. Apex Tennis Betting will take a look at the WTA and ATP going forward in terms of their top players.
Second Tier ATP Players
Berdych got over the hump in a big way by crushing Nadal in this tournament. The odd thing is that for a person who can play brilliantly in one match, he can never seem to snap together the pieces for a seven round tourney. Four sets against Andy is not a bad effort but we expected him to get past this member of the Big Four. As for Kei, he demolishes the players that he should. Ferrer being that example but he could not take a set off of Stan. Finally, Stan could not take advantage of an “off” Novak. Frankly, anything less than five majors in these two years would be a disappointment for Novak considering the state of his competition.
Queen is Not Dead
Now the state of affairs is not as dire as in the men’s game. If Serena was not so advanced in age then the ladies game would be the same as the ATP. Radwanska’s serve is such a weakness that she could not get by Venus. Eugenie got bounced hard. Madison showed some life as her ultra aggressive style got her through because she was on. Maria will not age as well as Serena because the lack of a big serve. Had the normal heat been prevalent this would have been a different story as the gap between Serena and the field is not as large as Novak with his rivals.
More of the same but the new players have to be on the way. The slow clay of the French is coming up. More hardcourts and then the clay court season is here.
