second-seeded Santiago Giraldo in Wednesday’s second-round play at the Ecuador
Open.
The 34-year-old former top-25 performer and currently world No. 102 Montanes
straight-setted his 31st-ranked Colombian counterpart Giraldo in 7-6 (7-1),
7-5 fashion on Day 3 at this clay court event. Giraldo had won four of their
previous five meetings.
This week’s champion in Quito will claim $80,000.
