Stuttgart, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) – Germany beat Australia in all three
matches Sunday to book its spot in the Fed Cup semifinals.
Angelique Kerber started the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Samantha Stosur
before Andrea Petkovic outlasted Jarmila Gajdosova 6-3, 3-6, 8-6 to clinch the
best-of-five tie.
The German duo of Julia Goerges and Sabine Lisicki beat Casey Dellacqua and
Olivia Rogowska to round out the 4-1 win.
Germany was last year’s Fed Cup runner-up to the Czech Republic and has won
three of the last four meetings with the Aussies, who reached the Fed Cup
semis last year for the first time since 1993. Germany hasn’t hoisted the
trophy since 1992.
Germany will face Russia in a semifinal in April. Russia beat Poland in the
quarterfinals.
