Estoril, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) – Seeds Richard Gasquet and Nick
Kyrgios were among Tuesday’s first-round winners at the inaugural Estoril Open
tennis tournament.
The fifth-seeded Frenchman Gasquet got past Aussie Marinko Matosevic 7-6
(7-6), 6-1, while the seventh-seeded Aussie Kyrgios outlasted Spaniard Albert
Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3) on the red clay at Estoril Tennis
Club.
The former world No. 7 Gasquet played his first match since Indian Wells last
month, where he retired in the second round due to a back injury.
Also advancing on Day 2 were the likes of Spaniards Albert Montanes, Guillermo
Garcia-Lopez and Nicolas Almagro and Portugal’s Rui Machado, who bested
fellow countryman Joao Sousa 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Garcia-Lopez is fresh off his
clay-court title in Bucharest last week.
On Wednesday, top-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain will open his week with a
second-round match against Dutchman Robin Haase.
