Garcia, Bacsinszky roll into Monterrey QFs

Monterrey, Mexico (SportsNetwork.com) – Third-seeded Caroline Garcia and
fourth-ranked Timea Bacsinszky each won their second-round matchup at the
Monterrey Open tennis event on Thursday.

Garcia dispatched Francesca Schiavone 7-6 (7-2), 6-0, while Bacsinszky, fresh
off her surprising title in Acapulco last week, earned a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4,
6-4 victory over Lesia Tsurenko on the hardcourts of the Sierra Madre Tennis
Club.

Fifth-seeded Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who won this event in 2010,
2011 and 2013, defeated Swedish challenger Johanna Larsson 6-4, 6-4

In the days lone upset, Polish qualifier Urszula Radwanska toppled seventh-
seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 6-2, 6-4.

Ana Ivanovic, the reigning Monterrey champion and current top seed, will face
Kristina Mladenovic in a quarterfinal matchup on Friday.

This year’s champ will earn $111,389.
