France storms back to beat Italy in Fed Cup

Genoa, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) – Kristina Mladenovic and Caroline Garcia won
their respective singles matches, then teamed up in doubles to complete a
great comeback against Italy and send France into the Fed Cup semifinals.

The Italians entered Sunday with a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five tie after Sara
Errani and Camila Giorgi won singles matches on Saturday.

Mladenovic kept France alive in Sunday’s first singles match by beating Errani
6-4, 6-3. Garcia then rallied past Giorgi 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Mladenovic and Garcia took down the world’s top doubles pair, Errani and
Roberta Vinci, by a 6-1, 6-2 margin in just over one hour.

France will face the Canada-Czech Republic victor in the semifinals in April.

France improved to 7-3 all-time versus Italy. The Italians had won the last
three meetings.

The French own two championships, the last coming in 2003.
