Bolelli and Fognini capture Australian Open men’s doubles

Melbourne, Australia (SportsNetwork.com) – Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini
won the men’s doubles title on Saturday at the Australian Open.

The Italian duo came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the French tandem of
Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in the final. They became the first
Italian pairing to win a Grand Slam doubles crown since Nicola Pietrangeli and
Orlando Sirola captured the French Open title in 1959.

It’s the third overall doubles title for Bolelli and Fognini, who teamed for
trophies at Umag in 2011 and Buenos Aires in 2013.

Herbert and Mahut were trying to give France its first men’s doubles title in
Melbourne since Michael Llodra and Fabrice Santoro claimed the 2004 crown.
